Star Wars Rogue One trailer does not disappoint

Star Wars: Rogue One will be the second Star Wars film to be released since George Lucas sold the franchise rights to Disney for four billion, which after the reception of The Force Awakens, seems like a bargain. Instead of a direct follow-up, Star Wars: Rogue One is a prequel of sorts, set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope: the sixth and first Star Wars films George Lucas created.

Gareth Edward, best known for writing and directing the amazing science fiction film Monsters on a shoe string budget, is in the director’s chair.

There’s a lot to like in the trailer. Imperial walkers return in forested scenery. A caped Ben Mendelsohn strides across water as some type of imperial admiral. Forest Whitaker provides a stirring appearance as a heavily armed rebel Commander, and the female lead, Felicity Jones playing Jyn Erso, seems to have serious attitude.

The plot reportedly has something to do with stealing the plans for the star destroyer that appeared in the first Star Wars film. You may remember that Darth Vader apparently let the rebels steal those plans, so he could draw them in. The possibility of a Darth Vader cameo is certainly not out of the question.

Like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Rogue One is getting a December release, a year after The Force Awakens in 2015. The direct sequel to The Force Awakens will arrive December 2017.

These are good days to be fans of the Star Wars universe, with a great many films ahead, and all the bad behind.
