While the dreams of an intelligent robotic assistant seem a long way off, the engineering feats required to build a human facsimile are advancing rapidly. Not that you’re likely to confuse Atlas the robot in a police line up. I just hope that when the robots do finally take over, they don’t replay this footage and take it out on their human slaves.
The Atlas robot is 5-foot-9-inches tall, weighs 180 pounds and doesn’t need to be plugged into a wall. No doubt we are still a long way off from seeing this in the local supermarket, but probably a lot closer than we were yesterday.
